PETER
MAX

Peter Max is one of the most important artists of our time. He evolved from a visionary pop artist of the 1960’s to a master of Neo-Expressionism, and his use of vibrant co;or has become a part of contemporary American culture. Max is a passionate environmentalist and a defender of human and animal rights. He often usesAmerican symbols in his artwork and has done paintings and projects for Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Obama; in 1994 he created a painting for the White House to commemorate the historic signing of the Peace Accord. The psychedelic movement of the 1960s was characterized by political rallies, music from the Beatles and artwork by Peter Max. It was an era where an entire generation spoke up and changed the course of history, through the Civil rights movement, women's liberation, and by demanding an end to war. During this era Peter Max became a household name as his distinctive artwork captured the imagination of the nation. His kaleidoscopic, cosmic style was embraced by the millions who saw Max's work as the artistic interpretation of the values of their generation. There are a limited number of artists whose work exemplifies their time period. Rembrandt, Goya and Picasso are artists whose canvases are viewed as a documentation of their respective eras. Peter Max fits this description, with works that both document and define a turning point in American history. With an expansive portfolio spanning over 40 years, Peter Max is still in high demand. Peter Max has stayed relevant throughout the decades and is now known as "America's Painter Laureate."
